Imani Abukar

My name is Imani and I am passionate about community. I believe in building villages for the youth to help empower them. I want to see more people win and that why I got inspired to create my grassroots organization Care Kits. Having the support of a village can make any young child believe they can achieve grand things. I love travelling, baking, playing basketball and drinking boba! I enjoy spending time with family and friends whenever I can, going on walks, and I'm a big foodie.

Beyond the Block

Beyond the Block is a youth empowerment program by Care Kits that provides hands-on workshops promoting wellness, creativity, and community connection. Through engaging sessions in strength training, yoga, self-care, and creative arts, participants build confidence, life skills, and peer relationships. The program targets BIPOC youth from under-resourced communities, offering mentorship, practical tools, and positive experiences that foster resilience, self-expression, and a stronger sense of belonging within their neighbourhoods.

      Beyond the Block delivers a series of hands-on, 6-week workshops for BIPOC youth. Each session combines skill-building, mentorship, reflection, and take-home wellness tools, fostering confidence, resilience, and community connection in a safe and supportive environment.

      Beyond the Block supports BIPOC youth from under-resourced communities through hands-on workshops in wellness, creativity, and mentorship. Participants develop confidence, practical self-care skills, and stronger peer connections, while engaging in positive, skill-building experiences that foster resilience, well-being, and a sense of belonging in their community.

      Care Kits exists to build the village and power the youth by removing barriers to access and creating inclusive, community-centered programs. Through mentorship, experiential learning, wellness initiatives, and essential supplies, we ensure youth are not only included — but supported, seen, and empowered to thrive.
