Julia Handfield

Julia is a passionate gender health equity activist with Medical Herstory, an award-winning non-profit. She has facilitated the development and publication of over 50 articles to eliminate sexism, shame, and stigma from healthcare experiences through improving medical education and patient advocacy as well as dismantling social stigma.

Storytelling to improve gender health equity

Storytelling to improve gender health equity will involve patients and healthcare professionals writing stories about how they encountered gender- and/or sex-based challenges in as/with patients in healthcare. The creation and sharing of stories will provide a chance to reflect and be supported by a roundtable event in Montreal to discuss what can be learned from these texts towards eliminating sexism, shame, and stigma from healthcare experiences.
