Nyasha Guta
My name is Nyasha and I am a Zimbabwean born Canadian with a background in global health research. I care about creating space where people feel seen and feel like they belong. My experiences in Canada and across different communities internationally have shaped how I think about health, identity, equity, and the importance of listening to people’s lived experiences. I am especially passionate about working alongside young people and communities to create opportunities for connection and meaningful participation. I believe our stories and experiences hold knowledge, and I want my work to help create spaces where people feel empowered to use their voices, take up space, and contribute to shaping the communities we collectively experience.
UNHU: Taking up Space
This project creates an affirming space for immigrant and diaspora youth to explore identity and the power of their lived experiences. Through confidence-building activities, facilitated conversations, storytelling, and creative reflection, participants will strengthen their voices and connect with other and through that will recognize their experiences as valuable forms of knowledge. The project will also gather community-informed insights to help shape future programming that responds to young people’s experiences and needs.

Over four months, UNHU: Taking Up Space will deliver three interactive sessions focused on confidence and voice as well as identity and belonging. Participants will engage in facilitated storytelling and reflection, creative activities, and community mapping, followed by evaluation and reflection to capture insights and inform future programming.
