Sagal Mohamed Guirreh
I am a Psychology student at the University of Ottawa with a growing interest in research, particularly in child development, neuropsychology, and the ways children experience and interact with the world around them. Beyond academics, I care deeply about making psychological knowledge and support more accessible within communities where conversations around mental health and neurodivergence can still be difficult or overlooked. My community involvement has shown me how important it is to bridge the gap between what we learn through research and what families can actually access in their everyday lives. As I continue my journey in psychology and research, I hope to contribute to work that better understands children’s needs while creating meaningful and practical change for the communities around me.
The Mangaar Project
The Mangaar Project is a community initiative supporting neurodivergent children and their families by making sensory resources more accessible. Through sensory support kits, practical tools, and family-centred resources, the project aims to reduce barriers for children with autism, ADHD, anxiety, and other sensory needs. Mangaar places particular emphasis on underserved and low-income families, while creating opportunities for parents to better understand and support their children’s sensory and developmental needs.

Le fonctionnement du projet
The Mangaar Project will launch a pilot providing sensory support kits to neurodivergent children from underserved families. The project will source and assemble sensory tools, develop accessible resources for parents, and distribute the kits through a community event where families can learn how to use them effectively at home.
Résumé de l'impact
Mangaar aims to reduce barriers to sensory support for neurodivergent children whose families may have limited access to specialized resources. By placing practical tools directly in families’ hands, the project seeks to help children feel better supported in their daily environments while giving parents accessible resources to better understand and respond to their children’s sensory needs.
Résumé de la mission
The Mangaar Project’s mission is to make sensory support more accessible, culturally responsive, and community-centred for neurodivergent children and their families. Mangaar aims to address gaps in access to resources, particularly within underserved communities, while helping families feel better equipped to understand, support, and advocate for their children’s individual needs.
