Samia Said Guedi

I am a young Somali-Canadian community leader based in Ottawa with a passion for bringing people together and creating meaningful change within my community. I am the Executive Director of Habo Nala Tali, a youth-led initiative focused on creating culturally grounded spaces for connection, dialogue, and community building. Through this work, I have gained experience in leadership, event planning, outreach, and working directly with community members. I am passionate about listening to the needs of my community and turning ideas into initiatives that make people feel heard, supported, and connected. I hope to continue developing as a leader and creating opportunities that have a lasting impact on my community.

Strengthening Somali Mothers and Daughters

Habo Nala Tali is a community-led initiative dedicated to strengthening relationships between Somali mothers and daughters. Through culturally grounded events, storytelling, workshops, and open dialogue, the project creates safe spaces where both generations can feel heard, understood, and supported. Habo Nala Tali encourages meaningful conversations around culture, identity, family, and shared experiences while fostering stronger communication, empathy, and connection within Somali families and the broader community.

Activities will focus on communication, cultural understanding, shared experiences, and strengthening relationships, supported by community outreach, partnerships, and participant feedback.

The project will encourage healthier communication, empathy, and open conversations around topics that can be difficult to discuss, contributing to stronger family relationships and a more connected Somali community.

      Habo Nala Tali’s mission is to strengthen relationships between Somali mothers and daughters by creating safe, culturally grounded spaces for connection and dialogue. Through storytelling, education, and community engagement, the project aims to improve communication, foster empathy and mutual understanding, address intergenerational gaps, and build stronger, more connected Somali families and communities.
