Bengali Youth Connect

Bengali Youth Connect is a project that aimed to empower and connect young Bengalis to create positive change in their communities. Through a comprehensive academic tutoring and cultural education program, Bengali-Canadian youth were provided with the necessary resources, support, and opportunities to excel academically, embrace their cultural heritage, and develop leadership skills. By fostering a nurturing environment and promoting community engagement, BYC inspired young people to become active contributors to society and shape their own future.

About this Project

Communities Served

My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

  • At risk youth & children
  • Refugees & newcomers
  • Racial or visible minorities
  • Multi-barrier populations

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

  • SDG 4: Quality education
  • SDG 10: Reduced inequalities

How the project works

We held a Sunday school weekly where we have Bangla classes, tutoring, cultural classes, and other leadership sessions as well as games and crafts. We did this to increase cultural awareness and connect Bengali youth to their roots while also uplifting them with their studies and encouraging them to be involved within their communities.

Project Impact

The impact achieved by the project has been highly positive. Children who initially had no knowledge of the Bangla language can now write various words and create short sentences, indicating remarkable progress in their language skills. Beyond language acquisition, the project has expanded their vocabulary and deepened their understanding of Bangla culture. Furthermore, the project has successfully empowered young Bengali individuals, helping them overcome academic challenges and fostering personal growth. It has also strengthened family engagement and pride within the community. Overall, the project achieved its goals of academic and cultural empowerment for the young participants while fostering a sense of connection and pride within the Bengali-Canadian community.

Project Mission

Bengali Youth Connect strives to empower and connect young Bengalis to create positive change in their communities. We aim to provide a platform for young people to develop leadership skills, build meaningful relationships, and take action on issues that matter to them.
