Myera Iftikhar
Brampton, ONMyera Iftikhar (my-ra if-tuh-car; she/her) wears several hats and enjoys intersecting her interest in mental health, diversity and inclusion, and advocating for access to knowledge and resources. Rooted in her own experience, her interests revolve around reducing barriers for marginalized communities, particularly within healthcare, workplaces, and education. In one initiative, she led a team in developing and delivering digital literacy workgroups to families from marginalized and lower socioeconomic communities. Myera hopes to continue addressing unmet needs of her community, particularly supporting youth from first generation or lower socioeconomic backgrounds youth in accessing knowledge and opportunities.
First-Gen Youth Hub
The first-gen youth hub is a space built on recognizing the gap that exists for “first-gen” in navigating such systems. The hub provides a community of support for youth, to build their skills, resources, knowledge, and social connections and events that they may have not had before.

How the project works
The project is geared towards building both skills, resources, and connections. A youth cohort spanning 4 months will engage in several workshops and events that build relevant skills and also engage in social opportunities and events to build a community of support.
Project Impact
Navigating life and finding opportunities, knowledge, and spaces is challenging as it is, and it becomes even more daunting figuring it out alone as a youth who may not simply know or be aware. The hub conducted 5 youth skill and community building sessions as “First Gen Futures”. First Gen Futures aims to address the needs of first generation youth through skill, career, and community development. Within this space of belonging, the hub aims to provide youth with the tools and resources they need to answer their questions, build their skills towards their future, and are able to build a community of support. With this youth are able to make more informed decisions and do not have to feel alone when reaching for their future.
Project Mission
First Gen Futures aims to address the needs of first generation youth through skill, career, and community development.
