Victor Vasilev

Toronto, ON

Victor is a Grade 11 student. He is currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Target Alpha, Canada’s largest organization aimed at providing equitable access to financial literacy resources. As someone who grew up in a family with little knowledge about financial literacy, Victor is incredibly passionate about teaching students critical skills, including budgeting and investing. In his two years with Target Alpha, the organization has grown to have over 1100 members, and over doubled attendance at our three conferences. With the support of sponsors, Victor looks forward to continuing to impact hundreds of students across the country.

Target Alpha's National Stock Pitch Conference

Target Alpha’s Stock Pitch Competition (SPC) is our live virtual competition in which competitors pitched a stock of their choice to industry professionals. Students learned through our weekly lessons in our 50+ school branches, as well as our regular workshops on financial literacy. It is the largest stock pitch competition for high schoolers in Canada.

How the project works

Throughout the school year (September - June), Target Alpha's school branches taught our financial curriculum to their members. The curriculum, as well as our national workshops helped students learn key financial literacy concepts, and succeed in our three competitions, including the Stock Pitch Conference. During Target Alpha's Stock Pitch Conference, students pitched a stock of their choice to a panel of business professionals, and learned about budgeting, fintech, and careers in finance through our 3 workshops leading up to the event. The competition itself was hosted on December 3rd.

Project Impact

Target Alpha's competition had over 300 registrants, with around 200 competitors on event day which is our highest attendance at a competition to date. Before this, we hosted workshops on financial literacy concepts (stock investing, stock trading, budgeting, credit, accounting) leading up to the competition. During the period in which we had the Sprout Ideas Fellowship grant, we also increased our total chapters to 50 with 1300+ members.

Project Mission

Target Alpha's mission is to provide equitable access to financial literacy education to Canadian students through our curriculum in our school branches/clubs, national workshops, and live conferences/competitions.
