The SOBJAR leadership development program addresses barriers such as high sports costs, social isolation, and limited leadership opportunities for newcomer and low-income youth. The project helps families who struggle to find affordable and inclusive activities for their children.

    When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

      The SOBJAR Leadership Development Program gives newcomer and low-income youth in Edmonton a safe and affordable place to play sports, meet people, and build leadership skills. Less than 4 months, we will support more than 50 youth through sports, mentorship, volunteers, and community activities that help them feel connected, confident, and included.

      Project Impact

      SOBJAR will help newcomer youth overcome barriers such as cost, language, and isolation. Through affordable sports, mentorship, and leadership activities, 50 youth will build confidence, friendships, and life skills while feeling welcomed and connected. The program will help newcomers find their place, participate in the community, and grow as leaders.

      Project Mission

      SOBJAR’s mission is to remove barriers that prevent newcomer and low-income youth from participating in sports and community life. We create affordable opportunities to build confidence, leadership, friendships, and life skills, helping youth feel a sense of belonging and become active community members.
