Batool Kazmi

As a Computer Science student at Trent University, I’m passionate about creating opportunities that help students learn, connect, and build confidence. I’m a student leader with the Trent Computer Science Society and have helped organize HackTrent, a student-led hackathon that brings together students to learn, collaborate, and build projects. Through my leadership experiences, I’ve developed a strong interest in community building, student engagement, and creating spaces where people feel encouraged to try something new. I’m especially passionate about using technology and collaboration to strengthen my university community and create opportunities that students may not otherwise have access to.

HackTrent Beginner Track

HackTrent Beginner Track is an inclusive program within HackTrent designed to help students with little or no hackathon experience confidently participate and build their first project. The track provides beginner-friendly workshops, mentorship, guided resources, and dedicated support throughout the event. By reducing barriers to participation, the Beginner Track encourages students to explore technology, develop practical skills, collaborate with others, and gain the confidence to continue building beyond HackTrent.

    When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

      The Beginner Track will run throughout HackTrent 2026, from November 6–8. Participants will receive beginner-friendly workshops, guided resources, mentorship, and dedicated support to help them develop their first project. The track will provide a welcoming pathway from learning the basics to presenting their completed work.

      The Beginner Track will make hackathons more accessible by helping students with limited experience build confidence, develop technical skills, create their first project, and connect with a supportive community.
