Axe The Stigma

[Axe the Stigma] is a community-building axe throwing event designed for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and community members to foster connection, joy, and belonging in a substance-free, non-bar environment. The event creates an accessible and affirming space where participants can socialize, build relationships, and engage in a fun physical activity together while challenging stigma and isolation often experienced by 2SLGBTQ+ people.

My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

    United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

    When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

      2SLGBTQ Axe Throwing “League” held in 3 events accommodating approx 25 guests at each event. Each event will feature education on all things wellbeing for the queer community, resource sharing and community connection building for local 2SLGBTQ+ folk in an empowering environment.

      Project Impact

      Reduce isolation in Peterborough’s 2SLGBTQIA community as suggested in RSO community needs assessment, showing a large demand for non bar centred all ages 2SLGBTQIA+ spaces to build connections.

      Project Mission

      Mission is to provide a space for 2SLGBTQIA+ folks of all ages to connect, access resources and build a sense of community and connections to local folks who share similar experiences around identity.

      Project Team

      My team is made up of folks from the PARN team who are also grassroots activists and knowledgeable in stigma reduction, community engagement and 2SLGBTQ+ issues.
