Ese Makolomi
I am a Toronto-based writer, educator, and literary arts organizer. As a young community leader, I create warm, accessible spaces where writers, readers, and emerging creatives can gather, reflect, and feel less alone in their creative journeys. Through my Writing Socials, I bring together literature, wellness, storytelling, and community care, with a focus on BIPOC, queer, immigrant, and women’s voices. My work is rooted in connection, self-return, and the belief that creative spaces can help people heal, build confidence, and imagine new futures. I hope to keep growing projects that make art, literacy, and wellness feel more welcoming, reflective, and accessible.
Becoming: Literary Gatherings for Writing, Wellness, and Community Care
Becoming: Literary Gatherings for Writing, Wellness, and Community Care creates accessible spaces for writers, readers, and emerging creatives to gather, reflect, and build community. Through themed Writing Socials, the project brings together literature, guided writing, storytelling, wellness practices, and author engagement to support connection, self-return, and creative confidence. Rooted in care and accessibility, Becoming especially welcomes BIPOC, queer, immigrant, women, and emerging voices seeking meaningful literary community.

About this Project
Communities Served
My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
The project runs as a Writing Social series featuring themed literary gatherings with guided writing, author engagement, wellness, and community reflection. The next gathering will continue centering literature while incorporating movement, outdoor space, and nature-based reflection. Activities will take place through fall programming and community follow-up.
Project Impact
Becoming supports writers, readers, and emerging creatives by creating accessible spaces for reflection, connection, and creative confidence. The project helps participants feel less alone in transitional seasons while building community through literature, wellness, and storytelling. Its impact includes stronger creative networks, increased self-expression, and meaningful access to literary arts programming.
Project Mission
Becoming’s mission is to make literary arts, wellness, and creative community more accessible. The project creates thoughtful Writing Socials where participants can reflect, connect, and grow through storytelling, guided writing, movement, and care-centered gathering. Its goal is to nurture confidence, belonging, and creative self-expression among emerging writers, readers, and community members.
