Hareem Ali

Hi! My name is Hareem Ali, and I have a strong interest in fashion, creativity, and the industry as a whole. I am currently in my final year of the Business Technology Management program at Toronto Metropolitan University. As a young community leader, I am passionate about bridging the gap between the business and technological sides of the fashion industry and its creative community. In particular, I hope to use my skills and experiences to help create more opportunities for marginalized voices and emerging creatives to be seen and represented within the industry.

Fashion Forward

Fashion Forward is a youth-led initiative that creates an inclusive fashion showcase for emerging creatives in Toronto. The project provides young designers, models, stylists, photographers, and other creatives with an accessible platform to showcase their talents, build practical experience, and form meaningful connections. By highlighting diverse perspectives and incorporating sustainable fashion practices, Fashion Forward aims to reduce barriers within the fashion industry while creating a welcoming space where young people can express their creativity and gain confidence.

    When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

      From September 2026 to January 2027, Fashion Forward will recruit emerging youth creatives, secure a venue and partners, develop sustainable fashion pieces, and promote the initiative. The project will culminate in an inclusive fashion showcase where participants present their work, connect with others, and gain hands-on industry experience.

      Project Impact

      Fashion Forward will empower emerging youth creatives by providing an accessible platform to gain hands-on experience, showcase their talents, and build meaningful connections. The project will increase representation for underrepresented voices in fashion, encourage creative confidence, and promote sustainable practices through the use of thrifted, reused, and upcycled clothing.

      Fashion Forward’s mission is to create an inclusive and accessible platform where emerging youth creatives can showcase their talents and gain meaningful experience. The project aims to increase representation, build confidence and connections, reduce barriers to creative opportunities, and encourage sustainable fashion practices through a community-focused showcase.
