Johannah Brockie
Brampton, ONI am a community leader passionate about preserving cultural heritage and fostering intergenerational connections. My journey has been shaped by transformative experiences in experiential learning and civic engagement across Canada and abroad, including programs such as Canada Service Corps, Katimavik, Ocean Bridge, and Youth Challenge International. I am dedicated to dismantling oppressive systems and promoting gender and racial justice, using storytelling and food as tools for empowerment. With a background in international development, civic engagement, and community organising, I strive to connect all members of my community with resources and networks that help them thrive. Through my current community cookbook project, I aim to celebrate the recipes, stories, and traditions of immigrant and working-class communities across the Greater Toronto Area.
NourishTO: Community Care Through Food & Wellness
Preserving Our Roots: A Community Cookbook celebrates the recipes, stories, and traditions of intergenerational families in the Greater Toronto Area, with a focus on immigrant and working-class communities. Through storytelling workshops, community engagement events, and open submissions, the project gathers cultural food knowledge into an inclusive print and digital cookbook. By preserving and sharing these traditions, the project strengthens intergenerational bonds and honours the culinary heritage that shapes community identity.

How the project works
Through workshops, community events, and open submissions, the project collects recipes, stories, and photos from GTA families. Submissions are compiled into a print and digital cookbook by January 2026.
Project Impact
The project preserves cultural heritage, strengthens intergenerational bonds, and amplifies underrepresented voices in food media. It creates lasting resources that honour traditions and foster community pride.
