Kassandra Jones

I’m a young community leader and Outdoor Director passionate about creating meaningful opportunities for children, families, and communities to connect with nature. Through my work with Once Upon a Forest, I help lead free nature-based summer camps that provide children with opportunities to explore, learn, and build relationships outdoors, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances. I’m passionate about creating accessible, community-driven initiatives that have a lasting impact. Through the Sprout Fellowship, I’m excited to bring this same approach to food access, environmental education, and community connection through the development of a community greenhouse.

OELF Community Greenhouse Project

This project will create a shared space where community members can grow fresh produce, learn about food production, and connect with one another. The project will make fresh, locally grown food more accessible to families, including those who may experience barriers to accessing it. The greenhouse will also provide opportunities for hands-on learning, environmental education, and community connection.

    When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

      The project will establish a community greenhouse where families and community members can take part in planting, caring for, and harvesting fresh produce. The greenhouse will provide hands-on opportunities to learn about gardening and food growing, with produce shared with local families and the wider community.

      Project Impact

      The project will increase access to fresh, locally grown produce for community members, with a focus on supporting families who may face barriers to accessing fresh food. It will also create opportunities for hands-on learning, environmental connection, and community participation, helping build a more connected and food-secure community.

      Project Mission

      The project’s mission is to create an accessible, sustainable space where community members can grow food, develop gardening skills, and connect with one another. Its goals are to support food access, encourage environmental stewardship, share knowledge, and create a lasting community resource that can continue benefiting families beyond the initial project.
