Great Island Bioblitz
Great Island Bioblitz is a month-long project in November that utilizes iNaturalist, a community-science platform and global biodiversity database. Through community partnerships and self-led events, the project will record the diversity of species found on Vancouver Island and surrounding islands. Bioblitz events like these help communities learn about the life around them while contributing to scientific research and monitoring.

My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
All iNaturalist observations made by project participants during November on and around Vancouver Island will be added to the project's database. Events will be hosted either in partnership with community organizations, local connections, or self-led.
Project Impact
This project will increase the quality and quantity of publicly available data on biodiversity on and around Vancouver Island. Communities that are engaged with in this project will have a better understanding of iNaturalist, the importance of community science, and the wildlife around them.
Project Mission
The mission of Great Island Bioblitz is to increase our understanding of what and where species occur on Vancouver Island and the surrounding islands. The project goals are to increase the public's understanding of community science and add to the database on wildlife in the project area.
