Nasra Mahdi
As a fourth year Health Sciences student at the University of Ottawa, with a strong foundation in the social determinants of health and a deep commitment to health equity, I enjoy creating opportunities that bring people together, promote wellbeing, and encourage healthy lifestyles.
Mouvement and Connection
This initiative is a two-day wellness workshop designed to foster a supportive community where young women can prioritize their overall well-being. The experience encourages participants to cultivate a healthier relationship with food and movement while equipping them with practical knowledge and resources they can use long after the event.

About this Project
Communities Served
My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
The program takes place over two structured days: Day 1: A women only Pilates class led by a certified instructor, focusing on physical movement, personal confidence, and building connections. Day 2: An interactive nutrition workshop featuring a hands-on cooking activity, engaging discussions on balanced eating, and strategies for making practical, affordable dietary choices.
Project Impact
The project helps participants become more mindful and confident when it comes to their overall health. It also supports and increases access to affordable wellness opportunities, especially in communities where these opportunities are limited.
Project Mission
Online trends often push young adults toward unhealthy body image behaviors, including extreme food restriction and unsafe weight-loss practices that can create harmful habits that are everlasting. This mission aims to redefine health for young girls by focusing on strength, nourishment, and confidence. Through Pilates sessions and interactive nutrition workshops, the program introduces sustainable, health-focused practices so they could be more mindful.
