Natalie Mikaelian
As an emerging mural artist from Toronto who grew up in a neighbourhood that lacked access to quality arts programs, I aim to give back to my community by creating accessible and engaging arts programs for local youth. I'm passionate about community-engaged urban design through murals, environment design, architecture, and collaborative art-making workshops, and I hope to create a more beautiful and meaningful urban world!
Scarborough HERstory Expressions Mural Camp
Scarborough HERstory Expressions (SHE) is a mural art-making intensive for young women and non-binary youth ages 14 - 19 who live in the Scarborough community to develop their skills in mural-making, and project management. Over five in-person sessions held in August 2026, 7 participants will work with Scarbrite to co-create a wall mural that reflects their own personal and collective experiences in the community and integrates community feedback. Youth will also be mentored in event-planning, and the program will culminate with a mural unveiling led by participants.

About this Project
Communities Served
My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
SHE Mural Camp 2026 takes place over 5 days in August, mentoring youth in the basics of mural-making and project management, and culminating in a community-engaged mural unveiling event that celebrates the achievements of our youth artists!
Project Impact
Our project provides seven local female and non-binary youth with quality, meaningful, arts programs with minimal barriers to access. We empower the youth to co-create beautiful works of public art that are on display for the local community.
Project Mission
Over five in-person sessions held at a community centre, library, or other public gathering space (depending on the year), participants work with Scarbrite to co-create an indoor mural that reflects their personal and shared experiences within the community.
Project Team
Born and raised in Scarborough, our team at Scarbrite is dedicated to making accessible and meaningful arts programs in the neighbourhood.
