Ogechi Okafor
I am passionate about addressing health inequities that affect marginalized populations and mobilizing youth who want to make a difference beyond the clinical setting. Previously, I have worked on projects that encourage cultural exchange among diverse communities and forming community connections with organizations centred on rural and Black health. I hope to continue working on initiatives that integrate educational support and cultural competency on healthcare issues.
Health Policy Case Competition
The Health Policy Case Competition aims to create a space for the community to learn about prevalent issues in the Canadian healthcare system and other sectors that adversely affect marginalized communities, especially in terms of Black and Indigenous populations. It will also give attendees the opportunity to develop their own health policy framework, informed by presentations from the Department of Public Policy and engage in conversations with peers.

About this Project
Communities Served
My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
The project will be over the course of one weekend (Saturday/Sunday) in the last week of November. Saturday attendees will learn about policy development through presentations and speakers. The second day teams will work together to create recommendations and awards will be given out.
Project Impact
Youth indicate that they have better knowledge of health care barriers and policy frameworks and a motivation to be more involved in the community.
Project Mission
More youth are able to understand and raise awareness of these issues and understand the policy process. participants can provide evidence based solutions and are given the resources to further their ideas. Youth express to the community partners that they are interested in working on projects and with organizations focused on minorities health.
Project Team
The team includes members of the Health Equity 4 All organization at UCalgary
