Ruby Bruce
I am a multi-award-winning Red River Métis, Cree, and Anishinaabe artist, educator, and community facilitator passionate about creating opportunities for Indigenous youth to connect with culture, creativity, and community. For over ten years, I have worked across education, arts, youth programming, and community engagement, supporting young people in finding their voices and building confidence. My leadership is based in relationship-building, cultural knowledge, and making space for others to lead. Through my art, workshops, teaching, language revitalization efforts, and community work, I create meaningful connections between generations and help build communities where Indigenous youth feel seen, supported, and empowered to shape the future.
Memere pi Moi
Memere pi Moi is a generational children’s book and Michif-French language revitalization tool created collaboratively by Elders and children in the community. The project brings generations together through storytelling, art, language, and shared cultural knowledge, creating a space where children can learn directly from their Elders. By centering intergenerational connection, Memere pi Moi celebrates community, strengthens cultural identity, and preserves stories and teachings for future generations.

How the project works
Community Elders and children will participate in a workshop series to collaboratively create Memere pi Moi, facilitated by artist Ruby Bruce. Through interactive French-Michif language activities, storytelling, and guidance from language keepers and families, participants will shape the story and characters. Ruby will then illustrate their ideas and designs for the final book.
Project Impact
Memere pi Moi will support French-Michif language revitalization by bringing children, Elders, families, and language keepers together through storytelling, art, and language learning. The project will encourage intergenerational knowledge sharing, help children build stronger connections to their language and culture, and create a lasting community resource that families and future generations can continue learning from.

The mission of Memere pi Moi is to support the revitalization of French-Michif through intergenerational learning, storytelling, and art. The project aims to create meaningful opportunities for children to learn alongside Elders and language keepers, strengthen connections to Métis language and culture, and create a children’s book that makes French-Michif learning accessible, engaging, and community-led.
