Sarah Daniel
I'm a medical student based in Calgary. My work has given me a close-up view of how gaps in awareness can delay people from getting the care they need, which is what drew me to community-level health initiatives like this one. I'm interested in projects that create practical, lasting impact that continue to serve their communities well beyond their initial timeline. Outside of my academic and research work, I care about building things that are accessible, sustainable, and rooted in real community needs.
HairAware: A Community-Based Health Education Project
HairAware is a community outreach initiative focused on building awareness and early recognition of hair loss conditions. It works through trusted community touchpoints to reach people where they already are, pairing education with practical guidance toward appropriate care.

About this Project
Communities Served
My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
The project develops accessible educational materials and engages trusted community touchpoints to connect people with appropriate care pathways. Activities run over the fellowship term, with outreach materials developed and rolled out progressively.
Project Impact
We aim to shorten the path between noticing hair loss and accessing care, by building awareness through trusted community touchpoints rather than waiting for people to seek specialists alone. Early recognition matters most for conditions where timing affects outcomes.
Project Mission
The project aims to build community-level awareness and early recognition of hair loss conditions, using trusted, everyday touchpoints as an entry point. Its goal is to make early action more accessible and to leave behind lasting community capacity for ongoing awareness.
Project Team
We are a cross-disciplinary team of medical and community health students collaborating on curriculum, outreach, and partnerships.
