Sifat Islam
I am a recent graduate from the University of Alberta with a background in Biology and Psychology and a strong passion for community involvement. I am a strong and driven leader who wants to make a meaningful impact for the Bengali youth here in Edmonton. I am goal oriented and will work hard to reach those goals.
Sunday Youth Bangla School
Sunday Youth Bangla School is designed to strengthen Bengali language skills, cultural identity and community engagement for youth in Edmonton. It is a chance for them to meet weekly with other children to do activities and events where they can learn and share their culture.

About this Project
Communities Served
My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
From August to January, the project will develop and deliver structured Bangla language classes for youth. Students will build language skills through lessons, games, cultural activities and creative performances. Monthly milestones will celebrate progress, while parents involvement, volunteer recognition, feedback and an end-of-term ceremony will strengthen community engagement.
Project Impact
As a Bengali-Canadian youth who wants to push my community to success, The Bangla Sunday School is a resource for Bangladeshi youth to gain valuable skills towards their language, academics and stay connected to their culture.
Project Mission
This project addresses the problem of youth being detached from their culture and having access to limited resources for tutoring and collaborating. They will benefit by building a closer bond with one another, gaining academic achievement and having stronger ties to their culture.
Project Team
My team includes teachers to teach bangla, students of the school who learn bangla, volunteers that act as teachers or their helpers, parents of the students who help give us feedback, coordinators to run everything smoothly.
