Sumeya Farah

I’m a young community leader, educator, and learning designer passionate about creating spaces where young people feel seen, heard, and able to shape their own futures. Through my work with youth, education, and community organizations, I design programs and learning experiences that centre creativity, belonging, and meaningful connection. I’m especially interested in how storytelling, literacy, and culture can help young people make sense of themselves and the world around them. As someone who grew up in Scarborough, community has always been more than a concept to me it has shaped how I understand leadership. I try to lead by listening, building alongside others, and creating opportunities for young people to see themselves as contributors, not just participants.

      How the project works

Reading Room meets once a month for a relaxed, youth-centred book club. Each session includes shared reading, open discussion, and creative activities that help participants connect the text to their own experiences.

      Project Impact

Reading Room creates an accessible space where young people can connect through books, storytelling, and meaningful conversation. The project supports literacy development while encouraging youth to explore identity, culture, and lived experience through literature.
