Tafsia Hussain

As a healthcare researcher and young community leader, I am passionate about creating meaningful opportunities for others to learn, connect, and grow. Outside of my research work, I support community initiatives focused on mentorship, leadership development, and the empowerment of Muslim women. I aim to use my experiences to help build welcoming spaces where young people feel supported, confident, and connected to their community.

EmpowHER and Grow

EmpowHER and Grow create welcoming spaces for young Muslim women in Toronto to connect, build confidence, and develop practical personal and professional skills. Through interactive workshops, networking opportunities, guest speakers, and community-building activities, the project helps participants expand their networks, learn from relatable role models, and strengthen their sense of belonging within their community.

    When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

      From August 2026 to January 2027, EmpowHER and Grow will deliver interactive workshops, networking opportunities, guest speaker sessions, and community-building activities for young Muslim women in Toronto, with support from community partners.

      Project Impact

      EmpowHER and Grow aims to reach at least 30 young women while strengthening confidence, knowledge, skills, and community connections. Participants will have opportunities to build new peer, mentor, professional, and community relationships while gaining practical resources they can apply to their personal, academic, and professional goals.

      Project Mission

      EmpowHER and Grow’s mission is to create accessible and culturally responsive spaces where young Muslim women can learn, connect, and grow. The project aims to reduce barriers to professional development and community participation by building confidence, strengthening networks, providing practical skills, and fostering a greater sense of belonging.
