Tori Ford

Montreal, QC

Tori Ford is the founder of Medical Herstory, an international award-winning youth-led non-profit on a mission to eliminate sexism, shame, and stigma from health experiences. Tori is an outspoken sexual health advocate whose work has been featured by UNWomen, CBC, and CanWaCH. She holds a BA from McGill University in Gender Studies, an MPhil from the University of Cambridge in Health, Medicine, and Society, and is currently pursuing her PhD in Primary Health Care at the University of Oxford. Her work on advancing gender health equity has been recognized UNWomen, The Harvard Public Health Review, and Cosmopolitan.

Medical Herstory

Medical Herstory is an award-winning youth-led non-profit on a mission to eliminate sexism, shame, and stigma from health experiences. The organization advances gender health equity through medical education, patient advocacy, and undoing stigma. With over 100 volunteers across 24 universities and 7 countries, Medical Herstory runs an online publication sharing lived experiences, hosts a range of events to destigmatize taboo topics, presents workshops to dismantle gender bias, and posts social media campaigns to engage the public.

How the project works

We are expanding our efforts by establishing a medical school partnership for gender health equity across Canada. We plan to roll our curriculum out next fall.

Project Impact

We were able to unite medical students across the province in discussion groups. We received feedback that these spaces were helpful, inspiring, and empowering. Over the last few months we have with over 60 students to build our gender health advocates training curriculum and medical school partnership which we are excited to launch. .
