Yosabeth Agonafer

I'm Yosabeth, a Calgary-based entrepreneur and community builder. I left a career in chemical engineering to build ventures that address gaps I saw in my own community — from wellness access to representation in sport. I'm the founder of Suba, a functional instant coffee brand, and I run community sessions and events focused on wellness, sport, and connection for young women. Across everything I do, my focus is the same: building it in a way that's sustainable and built to grow beyond just me.

Rooted & Rising: Black Youth Entrepreneurs Alberta

Rooted & Rising: Black Youth Entrepreneurs Alberta is a fully virtual pitch competition empowering young Black Albertans aged 15–30 to develop and launch their business ideas. Participants receive mentorship, pitch coaching, and workshops led by successful Black entrepreneurs and guest speakers. Every participant walks away with a comprehensive resource booklet covering how to start a business in Alberta. The program culminates in a live virtual pitch event where participants present to a panel of judges and compete for prizes.

About this Project

Communities Served

My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

    United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

Rooted & Rising runs over 8 weeks virtually. Participants aged 15–30 apply, attend business and pitch workshops led by guest speakers, receive one-on-one mentorship, and compete in a live virtual pitch event. Every participant walks away with a resource booklet and business tools to launch their idea.

      Project Impact

Rooted & Rising directly serves 12–15 young Black Albertans by closing the gap between having a business idea and knowing how to act on it. Participants gain real skills, mentorship connections, and a practical resource booklet they keep beyond the program. The long-term impact is a more diverse entrepreneurial ecosystem in Alberta where Black youth see themselves as founders.

      Project Mission

Rooted & Rising exists to give young Black entrepreneurs in Alberta the push they need to start. Our mission is to create a culturally affirming, accessible space where Black youth aged 15–30 can develop their ideas, build confidence, and connect with mentors and resources. Our goal is to turn ambition into action — one founder at a time.

      Project Team

Led by Yosabeth, young Black entrepreneur, founder, and community builder based in Calgary.
